Driveway Drainage Dublin — SUDS, Soakaways and Channel Drains
SUDS-compliant drainage, soakaways, channel drains and flood prevention for driveways and gardens.
Drainage is the element that makes or breaks a driveway or patio. A surface that ponds water after rain is a problem in any climate — in Ireland, where we average over 700mm of rain per year in Dublin, it's a near-constant nuisance. We address drainage as part of every installation we do, and as a standalone service for existing driveways and gardens with flooding problems.
Dublin City Council and county councils require that any new paving to a front garden either uses a permeable surface or drains to a soakaway, lawn, or garden rather than the public road. This is part of the SUDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) requirements that have been in place since 2008. We design drainage into every project we quote.
Channel drains, soakaways, French drains, connection to existing surface water drains — we advise on and install the most appropriate solution for the site.
Materials and Options
ACO channel drains
Linear channel drains with grating cover. Typically installed at the base of a driveway to catch water before it reaches the public path.
Soakaway crates
Modular plastic crates that form a void underground. Water drains in and then percolates slowly into the surrounding soil.
French drain
Perforated pipe in a gravel trench, covered with geotextile. Intercepts surface and ground water and directs it away.
Permeable sub-base
Open-graded sub-base that stores water temporarily and allows it to percolate, used with permeable surfaces.
