Resin Driveways Dublin — Resin-Bound Driveway Installation
Smooth, seamless resin-bound driveways with natural aggregate finish. Fully SuDS-compliant.
Resin-bound driveways have grown significantly in popularity across Dublin over the last decade, and for good reason. The surface is fully permeable — rainwater drains straight through it, which satisfies planning requirements without any separate drainage work. It's smooth underfoot, low-maintenance, and weed growth is minimal because the resin encapsulates the aggregate fully.
A resin-bound surface consists of natural aggregate (stone, gravel, or a blend) coated in UV-stable polyurethane resin, mixed on-site and trowelled to a consistent depth of typically 15–18mm onto a prepared base. Done correctly, it produces a seamless, high-quality finish that suits both traditional and contemporary homes.
At Driveways and Patios we've been installing resin driveways across Dublin and the commuter counties for years. We use UV-stable resin to prevent yellowing and we prepare the base properly — a resin surface is only as good as what's underneath it. We offer a free site survey and written quote within 24 hours. No deposit, written guarantee included.
Materials and Options
Natural gravel aggregate
Golden, buff, brown, or mixed-colour natural stones. The most common choice for a warm, natural appearance.
Basalt aggregate
Dark grey to near-black aggregate. Gives a clean, contemporary look. Often chosen for modern homes or to complement grey renders.
Marble chips
White or cream crushed marble. Premium appearance. Popular on high-spec driveways and paths.
Mixed blends
Multiple aggregate colours can be blended to achieve a specific look. We carry sample boards of available blends.
Our Installation Process
- 1
Base preparation
Resin needs a sound, stable base — either existing tarmac or concrete in good condition, or a new base course of tarmac. A weak or cracked base will telegraph through the resin surface. We assess the base condition at the site survey.
- 2
Edge restraints
Aluminium or steel edge restraints are fixed around the perimeter to contain the resin mix and give a clean, straight edge.
- 3
Mixing
Aggregate and resin are combined in a forced-action mixer on site until every stone is fully coated. The mix is then poured and trowelled before the resin starts to cure.
- 4
Application
The resin-aggregate mix is spread and trowelled to a consistent depth of 15–18mm. This requires experience — the working time is limited and the surface must be even.
- 5
Curing
The surface is left to cure for a minimum of 12 hours (24 hours in cold or wet weather) before pedestrian traffic, and 48 hours before vehicle use.
